National Coordination Group (NCG) for Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) and Red Lists (RLs)
The National Coordination Group (NCG) for Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) and Red Lists (RLs) of species and ecosystems is the national coordination platform for the following themes:
(1) Key Biodiversity Areas – identification process, documentation and delineation;
(2) Red List of Threatened Species and Ecosystems – evaluation and documentation process;
(3) Drawing up plans and activities for the conservation, monitoring, management and protection of KBAs and threatened species and ecosystems in Mozambique.
The Group has its own Terms of Reference (see related documents) and a Steering Committee chaired by the National Directorate for the Environment and Climate Changeand Climate Change (DINAMC) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAPAP) described below.
The National Coordination Group for Key Biodiversity Areas and the red lists of species and ecosystems was formally established in December 2019 and is made up of around 25 members, which include representatives of government institutions, national representatives of the global partnership of KBAs (members of the KBA Partnership), experts in specific areas of biodiversity, academia and research institutions, Civil Society Organisations and the private sector that hold relevant biodiversity data.
